Lanzarote remains a highly popular family holiday choice for families young and old. Consistently warm temperatures, long sunshine hours, sandy beaches and natural beauty, mean that a villa or apartment in Lanzarote has a lot to offer.

Introducing Lanzarote

Whether you are looking for an activity based holiday or a relaxing beach break, a villa or apartment in Lanzarote has much to offer. With Lanzarote’s long coastlines there are plenty of opportunities to get out on the water whether it be sailing, diving or windsurfing. If that is all a little bit much like hard work, the long sandy beaches are perfect for topping up the tan. The capital of Lanzarote is Arrecife which is a busy port. Arrecife has two dramatic castles, a thriving centre and palm fringed promenades. A must for any Lanzarote visit is the Timanfaya National Park where you can see the amazing dormant volcanoes, ‘mountains of fire’ and lava fields. Also worth a visit is the former home of influential local artist Cesar Manrique who campaigned to protect the Lanzarote environment from tourism development. His home is built from 5 caves is now a museum near Teguise.

Lanzarote weather / climate

One of the reasons that Lanzarote is such a popular resort is its climate which ensures all year round warmth but with a little less of the ferocious heat in the high summer that you would experience elsewhere in the Mediterranean. The north of Lanzarote is a little windier than the south, although the whole island benefits from cooling sea breezes.

Lanzarote beaches

If you are looking for long sandy beaches then head for the south coast. Villas and apartments in the Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise areas are best placed to reach these beaches. If you are looking for a more dramatic coastline then the northern coast is for you. Much less developed and more rugged in appearance, the Lanzarote nortern coast creates a much stronger impression of the island volcanic beginning.

What to do and see

Lanzarote’s biggest resort is alongside the perfect sandy beach at Puerto del Carmen. As the largest resort it is well catered for in terms of bars, restaurants and shops. Playa Blanca is situated in the south of Lanzarote and is a little more of a relaxing resort although it too has a wide range of restaurants, bars and shops. From Playa Blanca you can catch a ferry to nearby island Fuerteventura.

Shopping and eating

Spanish supermarkets will normally stock everything you need. You will find that locally grown produce will be much cheaper but you can of course find most of the brands you would recognise from home. There are lots of great restaurants in Lanzarote with the fare tending to be locally caught fish, great quality meat (imported from Argentina) and local delicacies. You will find that all the resorts can cater for the most diverse tastes. If you are looking for a memento of your holiday then the usual Spanish favourites are leather goods and embroidered lacework.

Golf and other sport activities

There is only one golf course at Costa Teguise and this can be found on the south east coast. This course is open to non-members.

You will find sailing and wind surfing facilities (hiring and lessons) at most of the Lanzarote resorts.

Getting to and around Lanzarote

Lanzarote has its own International airport which is serviced by scheduled and charter flights throughout the week. All the major resorts are within 1 hour of the airport. Getting around Lanzarote is easy by car as the island has a good road network linking all the major towns and resorts.
