Introducing Mallorca
On the west coast of Mallorca you find a rugged scenery that features dramatic cliffs. The Tramuntana mountains, which run the length of the north west coast, create a great backdrop too many pretty villages including Deya (home of author Robert Graves), Soller and Valldemossa (famous for its monastery where Chopin lived). Villas and apartments in this area (Pollensa, Puerto Pollensa and Cala San Vincente) are great bases for exploring the beautiful countryside and relaxing on the sandy beaches. In the south you will find Cala d’Or and the beautiful bay of Cala Modrago. Not forgetting the lively and chic capital of Mallorca, Palma.
Mallorca weather / climate
| With hot summers Mallorca attracts sun worshippers from near and far which can mean the main resorts are a little crowded. However, if the hot Mediterranean summer is too much, you will find the spring and autumn ideal times to visit as the weather remains warm (but not stifling) and the beaches are emptier. The winters are also mild which makes it a great location for your winter getaway. |

Mallorca beaches
You will find lots of great beaches and coves across Mallorca although in the West the terrain is more mountainous and therefore the coast is more rugged.
What to do and see
The capital of Mallorca, Palma has much to offer the day tourist from gothic cathedral and palaces to the marina and promenade, as well as those after a fun night out with good quality restaurants and clubs.
Shopping and eating
Spanish supermarkets will normally stock everything you need. You will find that locally grown produce will be much cheaper but you can of course find most of the brands you would recognise from home. If you are eating out you will find that Mallorca restaurant food is primarily meat based so you will find speciality sausages and barbeque cuts aplenty. As it is an island you will also find lots of fresh fish on the menu. Palma is the place to head for designer shops although if you are looking for special mementoes then check out the Mallorcan cultured pearls Inca footwear.
Golf and other sport activities
Mallorca is a popular destination for golfers and the island is served by a number of good courses which are open to non-members.
With such a large number of tourists to entertain, Mallorca provides a large range of sporting activities including horse riding, sailing and windsurfing. The surrounding countryside also provides plenty for walkers to explore and see.
Getting to and around Mallorca
You can get direct flights from the UK to Palma’s international airport. It has flights every day to the UK, with it being a popular route for the low cost airlines as well as scheduled and charter flights. You will find that most of the major resorts are within 1 hour of the airport. If you want to drive to Mallorca there are regular ferries between Palma and the mainland. Once in Mallorca getting around is easy by car as there is a good motorway network. Villas and apartments at the main resorts are less than an hours drive from Palma. There are good train links joining Pollensa and Alcudia to Palma and this is the easiest way to enjoy a visit Palma.
